The History of the Gamma Sigma Chapter

The Gamma Sigma Chapter at Alabama State University (formerly State Teachers College) in Montgomery, Alabama, was chartered Wednesday, April 1st, 1936.

The chapter was founded by E.C. Russell, J.T. Brooks, F.W. Taylor, H.L. Van Dyke, J.H. Taylor, and D.D. Crawford.

The charter members were William R. Beard, William H. Brown, Fredrick D. Fant, Tunney D. Fisher, James A. Fields, Otto von Dickerson, Bradley G. Moore, Henry J. Moore, Henry A. Moorman, Carlos G. Parker, Nathaniel W. Parker, Stanley A. Graves, Daniel P. Scrivens, James H. Ramsoure, and Nesbit B. Wesley.

In 1938, the Gamma Sigma Chapter contributed to the support of the N.A.A.C.P. In 1939, it served as the host to the Conference of the Seventh District.
